Brunch at mission had my expectations set high. The venue held a certain
level of class I haven’t had the chance of trying out yet. The menu was small and refined but
disappointingly it seemed to lack imagination and was almost too basic. I questioned whether this reflects brunch might be an afterthought to what is first and fore most a wine bar.
Juliette and I chose the scrambled egg and mushrooms on toast. It was tasty, light and the produce was high quality. The problem was the portion size did not overwhelm and I couldn’t help feeling like there was something missing.
Looking around the table I felt as though all meals could have been elevated with some nutritious seasonal vegetables. The scrambled egg and mushrooms would have been teamed well with vine ripen tomatoes for vitamin C or sautéed spinach for added iron and B vitamins, even a sprig of basil could have done the trick.
I did enjoy my experience and I will go back but not for the food and not because there are healthy
options for vegetarians but rather because I loved the venue. In the summer the outdoor seating will
be amazing and the coffee was one of the best I have had since moving to London.
My tip for anyone dining here is to order a side to lift your meal and get the balance that is missing.
